The diocesan Sisters of Saint Joseph in Wilcannia, far western NSW, suffer isolation, extreme hardship and the deaths of two young sisters in the 1890s —Sister Ambrose Sullivan and Sister Aloysius Kelly. Among other difficulties, these events prompt them to amalgamate with North Sydney Josephites, the ‘central’ congregation.
