Over the past year, Australian research kept surfacing the same insights: young adults aren’t walking away from faith; they’re gravitating towards it, even as work, rent, relationships, and the news leave little room for anything else. Faith isn’t falling off the list; it’s becoming more important.
For the Sisters of Saint Joseph, whose legacy has always been about meeting people where they are, continuing Mary MacKillop’s mission means carrying it forward with young people, not just for them.
“We kept hearing the same thing in our research. Young adults aren’t rejecting faith; they’re seeking it out,” said Eamonn Pollard, Director of Spirituality Services at MMSM. “The Mary MacKillop Spirituality Ministry is keen to support the spirituality and faith of all age groups, including youth. The Sisters of St Joseph have always been clear that encountering the sacred is for all.”
Sunset Spirituality is our answer to that: a new event series built around real conversation, not answers handed down, where young adults can connect life and faith without needing to have it all figured out.
Launching on Friday 18 September at Mary MacKillop Spirituality Centre, Baulkham Hills, the initiative is the result of in-depth research and collaboration, co-constructed with experts in youth spirituality.
With Donnie Velasco as facilitator, a keynote from Br Barry Donaghue, panel discussions, and more, the hope is that young Catholics will gather on Friday evenings in a space that supports their search for a deeper connection to spirituality and God.
